How many devices are connected to your Wi-Fi? What types of devices are these? Keep in mind that many "Smart devices" may connect to your home network. You'll want to heavily consider just what devices run on your home network. You'll want your PiHole to be efficient and provide the most benefit for you and your network.Īdditionally, when you take into things like basic device functionality into account, you'll find that just blocking "everything" is often times not feasible.īlocking everything usually means many things tend to break, and some devices/services/websites become totally unusable/inaccessible if you go for a "nuke everything" approach. This isn't to say that you need specific justification for blocking certain things via PiHole, but it's definitely important to consider what you need blocked and for what reason. Wanting to block intrusive ads across your entire home network because you're tired of targeted and privacy invading ads?.A parent wanting to block malware and adult-content related domains network wide (irrespective of device) because you don't want your kids visiting such sites?. Wanting to block excessive device telemetry because constant requests are slowing down your network?.What are your reasons for blocking it? (AKA: Why?).What do you want to block? (Malware domains, Advertising, Trackers, Telemetry, Parental Control, etc).In this specific case, you'll want to ask yourself two questions: Use these points as a helpful reference for picking what blocklists you want to use for your PiHole. It is what it is we will keep working hard to deliver on our promise of celebrating Africa (the real Africa) and doing good. Technology-driven change is a constant in this industry, some good and some bad. AI will become as much a part of photo editing as Photoshop is now, and it’s up to us to draw firm lines in the sand if we are to continue celebrating authentic photography. We have no interest in permitting computer-generated images into our space, but using AI to enhance images is another story. Lastly, a word about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance and generate photos: we suspect that AI will dominate all photographic competitions going forward – including the submission of computer-generated images – and so we will need to change how we manage our selection process. We don’t decide these things beforehand each year, the entries lead us down different paths of celebration. What stood out for us this year was how well our entrants captured movement (sometimes in poor light), and this year we decided to select our top three entries based on that aspect of photography. This gallery of our winners emphasises the gobsmackingly awesome biodiversity of this place. This year found us enjoying more high-quality entries in the final selection month than ever before, and this final selection of the winners was a particularly tough one. We would like to thank our generous sponsors, Hemmersbach Rhino Force and Mashatu Botswana, whose support has been invaluable. The winner and two runners-up will share the impressive $10,000 prize money, and they and their partners will join our CEO Simon Espley and his wife, Lizz, on the ultimate private safari in the wilderness paradise of Botswana. In a music climate that has found itself championing happy, affable stars, Malone stands as someone who cares nothing for what curmudgeon gatekeepers think of him. Rather, Post Malone’s ascent situates itself around one giant collaboration with a talented rapper, (Quavo, on “Congratulations,” the initial hit that blew up to over 400 million Youtube views (“White Iverson”), and a group of fatalist songs such as “Too Young.” Combine all of that and you get an artist that has well over a billion (!) streams and four platinum singles. Nor were the songs from his debut album, Stoney, where he sang about drinking codeine out of a broken whiskey glass, a perfect metaphor for his Dallas-metro-meets-Texas-country upbringing. “ White Iverson” was not the greatest signifier that Post Malone would be around for a while. So while I wouldn’t consider Post to be a rapper, I also find him to be the kind of artist that could blur all of the lines thanks to how regionless music has become. It’s personable and scummy and charming in all the right ways. With “Rockstar,” he sings like a drunk college kid on your lawn in the middle of the night. When he wants to wail, he’ll pull out his trusty acoustic guitar and play Nirvana or Green Day to near-perfection. It’s how certain “pop” sounding records of his like “Too Young” feel like a spill into full-out karaoke. His voice can drag certain syllables into joyous, repeatable territory. Instead, Post’s in a middle ground of both. He’s also not a full-on folk rapper like Everlast was when he struck out by his lonesome to craft Whitey Ford Sings The Blues in 1998. It’s the famous rap song that hasn’t caught on with rap radio but is beloved everywhere else. And despite breaking all kinds of streaming records on Apple Music, the song registers with a particular crowd as it only sits at No. But, frankly, the two together are what make it sound perfect. 21 makes the song snake in a different direction because it feels less like a Post Malone song and more like a rusty, grave 21 Savage take on nihilism. It’s the type of beat that is tailor-made for 21: Knocky, with enough pop to make his declarations sound bigger than usual, as Savage sarcastically mentions his 12-car garage that only has six cars. Despite its paint-by-numbers, “fast life and drugs” zeal, Malone’s yearbook-quote-ready hook and 21 Savage make the track worthwhile. Whereas “Bodak Yellow” picks up energy around the time Cardi tells you about getting her teeth fixed, “Rockstar” hums along, steady the whole way. It replaced “ Bodak Yellow,” Cardi B’s anthemic and self-affirming boast of a debut single. “ Rockstar,” the 21 Savage collaboration that Post Malone released in mid-September recently became the fifth rap song of 2017 to land at No. Post Malone actually grew up and became just that. At one point in their respective career, every artist wanted to be the dorm room king in regards to music. Those three quantities are the currency in modern day music appeal. Post Malone has somehow elevated beyond all of the jittery issues that would doom any other artist because he’s likable, talented, and relatable. That should have been a death blow, but instead, it’s been mostly forgotten. When he appeared on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club to promote “White Iverson,” his 2015 breakout hit, Charlamange Tha God grilled him over using the “N-word” in a Vine clip way before “Post Malone” became a thing. He discussed in interviews how it was a love of Guitar Hero and his dad that propelled him to make music and even labeled himself both a “one-hit wonder” and “industry plant.” Because once upon a time, Post Malone’s popularity felt accidental. Updated May 2023: If you love rom-coms and still subscribe to Netflix, you're in luck. Luckily, we've curated a diversified list of the best rom-coms on Netflix for fans of across the board. Rom-coms, although often characterized in their own genre, can cross the lines from period pieces to horror. Viewers often slight themselves sticking to films set in specific genres, when Netflix hosts so many movies that bend genre stereotypes. On Netflix alone, there are enough titles to keep you in the world of meet-cutes and quirky dates until you run out of popcorn. Streaming services are popping out original content faster than it can be consumed, with hidden gems on every platform imaginable. These movies allow you to get lost in the moment-by-moment nuances of courtship, and supply you with a hefty dose of witty banter, unlike a plot-heavy piece of Oscar bait.ĭespite a lack of rom-coms starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan these days, the genre is experiencing a resurgence, with new movies coming out all the time and old classics finding new audiences. However, with the modern era of 24-hour news cycles and social media addiction, there's nothing like watching two people fall in love to briefly quell the existential angst. For decades, romantic comedies have been considered by the film-going masses to be little more than "chick flicks," designated as lighter fare that falls more into the guilty-pleasure viewing category than, say, Scorsese's latest film. |
